What you'll learn

Let’s face it—networking can sound like a dirty word when you’re an actor. It conjures up images of awkward small talk at industry events, DM’ing casting directors who’ve never met you, or worse—accidentally liking a photo from 2014. 😳 But here’s the truth: in today’s digital world, connecting isn’t just important—it’s essential. And when done right, it’s actually fun.

This course isn’t about schmoozing or spamming your showreel to everyone with “Casting” in their bio. It’s about authentic connection—and learning how to speak the language of decision-makers without sounding like a walking résumé.

Over seven practical, bite-sized lessons, you’ll learn how to build real relationships, pitch yourself without feeling gross, and get remembered for all the right reasons. Ready to step out from behind the self-tape and into the conversation?

Let’s go.

Research is About Connecting
Lesson
2
Duration

You wouldn’t walk into a blind date and say “Hi, I’m single.” So why lead with “Hi, I’m an actor”?

Good research makes for great conversation—and makes you feel more confident.

Here, you’ll learn how to investigate without being invasive and connect with people in a way that makes them curious to know more, not block your email. Trust us, there’s a method—and it works.

How to Approach Casting Directors (Without Weirding Them Out)

Casting Directors are human (yes, even the ones with intimidating Instagram feeds).

In this lesson, you’ll discover how to strike the perfect balance between professional and personal—without over-sharing, over-selling, or over-doing it. The goal? Leave a genuine impression that makes them say, “I like this actor,” not “Oh no, it’s that actor.”

The Other Audience You're Missing

You’ve been told to make strong choices in auditions—but what if you had a secret audience to practice on first?

This lesson offers a clever twist: using your daily interactions (yes, even at your day job or coffee run) to rehearse and refine the way you communicate.

No pressure, no rejection—just real-world reps for your networking muscles.

What (and What Not) to Email a Casting Director or Agent

Should you attach a headshot? Should you keep it short? Should you use emojis?!

(Quick answer: probably not that last one.)

Digital communication is an art form. One wrong line and you’re ghosted. One right note and you’re on the radar. This lesson helps you strike that perfect tone—professional, polished, and human.

Learn To be a Consummate Communicator

Be a Consummate Communicator (Even at Awkward Industry Events)

What do you say when you run into a Casting Director at a party or in line at the cinema?

Spoiler alert: It’s not “Hi, I’m available for callbacks.”

We’ll teach you how to build familiarity over time, the way real relationships are made. Because networking is not a one-time thing—it’s a practice, a rhythm, and most of all, a conversation.

Putting It All Together (The Relationship Glue)

Here comes the final flourish: putting your actor toolkit + your connection skills into something that feels real, lasting, and—you guessed it—sustainable.

You can’t fake chemistry, and you can’t force a relationship. But you can build one that’s meaningful and mutually respectful.

This lesson shows you how to turn contacts into connections, and connections into collaborators.

I live far away from the major casting locations. Thanks to the skills I have learnt from TAT I have maintained a constant stream of guest roles in major productions. As Greg says, “It’s a digital world”. This is where I got the training and the skills to deliver quality self tests at short notice to the biggest casting houses in the country. This is where my career started.

Greg Apps is a precursor, an outside-the-box thinker who brings you to his side of the (self-tape) screen. You can’t help but feel like an athlete, activating and constantly training your acting muscles, getting stronger week after week, gaining confidence and taking ownership of your own brand and career.

I find it rare to be given feedback that I haven't heard before but I must say that the feedback Greg gave me contained all new information and shined a light on the areas of self taping that I didn't know I need to focus on. Thank you Greg and Robyn!

The self taping school is nothing short of remarkable. It felt more like individual coaching and mentoring than an online course. The feedback and advice from Greg along the journey is personal, honest and empowering. What's more, I have enhanced my industry networking (across the globe now) and developed some great and supportive contacts. In short, I will never self test the same way again.
